Today it takes about 40 days for most Americans to earn enough
income to pay for their food supply for the entire year!

Agriculture is the nation's largest employer with more than 24 million people working in some phase-from growing food, fiber and fuel to selling products at the supermarket, retailers and service stations.

Each United States' farmer produces food and fiber for 144 people.

Americans spend 10% of their personal income for food. (See side panel)

Farmers and ranchers provide food and habitat for at least 50% of the nation's wildlife.

About 99% of U.S. farms are operated by individuals, family partnerships
or family corporations.
